Meebits

The website, brand refinement and design system for Meebits, the voxel sculptures by Larva Labs.

Context

Meebits are 20,000 voxel figures that Larva Labs released in 2021, each one shipped with its own 3D files. The Meebit Company took over the collection in 2025. In September 2025 it brought LayerTwo in to refine the brand, design a new website and set up the design system the site would be built on. The old site had gone offline. The new one went live at meebits.com on February 2, 2026, on The Meebit Company’s own infrastructure.

Strategy

The Meebit Company already called Meebits generative digital sculptures, and we built the site the way a gallery shows sculpture. On the homepage and the About page each Meebit stands at full height on a pale field, large enough to read every trait, and turns so you can see it from every side. On the About page a single Meebit turns slowly, starting as a wireframe and resolving into the finished figure. Looking comes first. Trait search, the collector portal and the owner files sit behind it, and anyone can browse the whole collection without connecting a wallet.

Design Direction

We kept the Meebits mark and its purple, and changed the type. The old heading face read as cartoonish to both teams, so Amina now sets every heading and paragraph in two weights, and Geist Mono carries the token numbers, traits and labels. Pages sit on white and pale grey over a faint grid. Purple is kept for the NFT renders, the selected item and the hover. Before settling on Amina alone, we tested a condensed display face and then Brulia for headlines.

The Homepage

The seven types stand side by side under an outlined MEEBITS title. Hover brings one forward, and a click brings it to the centre, where its turntable plays. The Meebit Company asked for a clearer brand on arrival, so the title sits behind the figures as a watermark, the top-left logo became the icon, and a small bounce shows the figures can be clicked. The figures began as live 3D models. With textures, each model needed about a gigabyte of graphics memory, more than a phone will give a page. The final homepage plays rendered turntables on transparent backgrounds, and scroll or swipe moves between the types. A loader counts up against the real load, and pages hand off to each other through the Meebits logo.

Website

The collection page shows all 20,000 in a random grid that reshuffles on every visit. Traits filter it in the same groups collectors know from OpenSea, each trait with its own isolated render as a thumbnail. Explore Traits gives the most distinctive ones a short note and a row of Meebits wearing them. Each Meebit has its own page with its traits and provenance, and links out to MeebCam and the marketplace. Owners connect a wallet to reach the collector portal, where the original 3D and image files download behind a token gate. The About page tells the Larva Labs story as a timeline, from CryptoPunks through Autoglyphs to Meebits, with photographs of the printed sculptures.

Design System

The site is built on Chakra UI, and the design system is a Chakra theme drawn in Figma. It holds the colour tokens with light and dark semantic sets, the type scale, sizes and breakpoints, the icons and around 45 components, each with its states. Felix built the site from the kit. When the client asked for larger text in January, we raised the base sizes in the system, and every page followed.

Templates and Print

Alongside the site we designed the pieces The Meebit Company needed for its events. These were posts for the Art Basel Miami sale of the printed sculptures, a certificate of authenticity for each sculpture, a poster for the Meebits Futból Cup drop, and a flyer and signs for the Meebits Café in Palo Alto. The flyer works as a paper preview of the site, with the Larva Labs timeline, the seven types and a set of traits. For routine announcements we built text-only templates in Figma, in portrait, landscape and story formats. The team can post a town hall or a game night without waiting on a new 3D render.

Build

The site is a custom Next.js build on Chakra UI. Felix wrote the loader, the turntable playback, trait search across the full collection and the token-gated downloads, all working against The Meebit Company’s own API. It runs on AWS Amplify in their account, under their domain and CDN, and was handed over to their team at launch.
